Mo-Graph Mentor

{Student Interview} Remington McElhaney

1)    Tell us a little bit about yourself. (location, occupation, interests, etc.)

Hi my name is Remington McElhaney and I am a motion graphic designer at VeracityColab and a student at Mograph Mentor. I love motion graphic design and especially 2D animation. I was born and raised in Northern Idaho and lived there for 21 years. I freelanced for 3 ½ years and had an absolute blast doing it! I now live in Southern California and work as a motion designer at an amazing studio called VeracityColab. When I’m not working I enjoy spending time with my wife and trying to stay active by playing basketball.

2)    How did you find out about MoGraph Mentor and what made you interested in joining the program?

I had been a huge fan of Michael Jones for years, so when I saw the video uploaded I was incredible interested. First I thought he just made the video for a company that was starting this, but once I found out that he was actually starting it himself I was instantly sold. I was interested in Mograph Mentor because I had been 100% self-taught for motion design so there were some pretty large gaps in my education. It’s a lot of fun sitting around watching After Effects tutorials, it’s not as much fun busting out a color theory book and teaching it to yourself! So I saw this as an opportunity to grow as a designer and animator, and help fill some of my gaps of knowledge.

3)    What do you like best about MoGraph Mentor? Anything that can be improved?

I love the passion that fuels Mograph Mentor and how their goal is to serve you the best they can. The amount of work that has gone into creating this program is incredible and it definitely shows. The mentors are all crazy talented and all share a passion for teaching. The Q&A’s are also amazing. When else do you get to be one of 4-5 people picking the brain of Jorge Estrada?
